Makeup Your Own Mind

I've previously written about my love of makeup vs my lack of skills here and here, but today I'm going to write about what wearing makeup opens me up to. My decision to wear makeup opens me up to all sorts of unsolicited advice/criticism/opinions.  Who knew so many would have something to say about what I decide put on my face?

How many of us have been told...."You know, you really don't need to wear makeup." To which I want to reply, "You know I really didn't ask for your opinion now did I?"

Of course I don't need makeup! My face will not burst into flames if I go outside unadorned. For that matter,  I don't need my Instagram account or more than one pair of leopard print shoes (more on that later) or 2 Amazon Echo dots in my tiny apartment (Sorry Alexa!)  In this 1st world country that I live in, I don't need 99.9% of the things I have or seek to gain. So let's not pull at that thread, okay?

The point is, we don't need a large percentage of the things that bring us joy. So why some people feel that 'need' is a valid argument against the wearing of makeup is beyond me. On another note, why do so many feel so free to weigh in on something so personal anyway? Don't they understand that makeup, like hair and clothes are a means of expression to an entire portion of the population?

I wake up in the morning wanting to feel glamorous some days or playful on other days. Notice I said 'feel' and not 'look'. When I do my makeup, my glamorous look = my everyday look with a swipe of shadow,  my playful look = my everyday look plus a little shimmer, my bold look = my everyday look with a bold lip. You get the picture.

I am truly amazed at how some people have the ability to completely change their appearance at will. I like to call it 'transformation makeup'. It is a talent, a real art and something to be admired. Nothing chaps my cheeks like flip comments from men degrading women for wearing makeup. Calling them frauds or fakes all the while vying for the attention of the girls with flawlessly made up faces.

So you're a guy who doesn't like makeup, okay, find yourself a girl who isn't about that life. The problem begins when a guy sees a girl rockin' a fully beat face and sets out to impose his preferences on her.

REALLY dude? When you met her, she was made, so either get on board or get out of her way. Stop trying to makeup her mind as to how she chooses to present herself to the world.

Rant over.
