Welcome to My Jungle

My love of plants started with my Mom, she always managed to cultivate several in a house that didn't give them the respect they deserved. When someone wasn't calling one a 'weed' someone else was watering them with Strawberry Kool-Aid; little brother I'm looking at you.

In spite of all of that flora disregard, my Mom's plants thrived and fortunately for me, I inherited her green thumb. I've had plants in every place  I've lived, except for that dark dated loft that only had one window and was so dark that only mushrooms would grow. Did I mention that I'm no fan of mushrooms?

Fast forward to 2017, as I embraced the 'more is more' philosophy with my decor.  My plant collection morphed from 3 to 82. As I type that number I realize that I run the risk of being labeled a hoarder.  This may very well be true, but, in my defense, many of my little growing beauties are pretty tiny. Tiny is another word you will hear often on this blog. So consider yourself warned!

Living in the heart of the city with no outdoor space makes my little jungle even more satisfying. It is not only beautiful, it is therapeutic. I find myself making a beeline for my rooted roommates the minute I walk through the door. I don't even take my high heels off or put my bag down.  No matter how ridiculous a day I've had, I'm always happy once I've finished visiting with them. My plants equal love, what can I say? Well, I could say a lot more, but I'll save it for future posts.

Most of plants live in Terra Cotta pots.  They are inexpensive and lend themselves to customization. I've decked mine out in gold acrylic paint to make them fancy. I also chose them because they don't detract from the beauty of my plants and they lend themselves to a uniform look. I have a few other pots thrown in here and there, but when you have as many plants as I do, uniformity helps keep a space from morphing into a circus.
